Speech & Language Resource Base

Tidemill’s Speech and Language Resource Base (Redwood) was established in 2009. Our two specialist classes are set up to specifically support children with speech, language and communication needs who may struggle in a mainstream environment. Children who meet our admissions criteria will have a diagnosis of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

The children accessing Redwood will have:

  • Access to a full, rich and relevant curriculum

  • Opportunities to develop socially and academically

  • Specialist support through small group teaching and therapy

  • A language rich environment

All children in the Speech & Language Resource Base (S&LRB) will also have a place within a mainstream class at Tidemill; the time children spend in their mainstream class is dependent on their individual needs. Children attending the S&LRB receive regular, specialist support both within the base and their class. Children will receive support from speech and language therapists, specialist teachers and teaching assistants. This ensures that children and young people can focus on the curriculum and have additional input to address their specific needs.

Admission to the S&LRB is through the Lewisham Special Educational Needs Provision and Placement Panel, not Tidemill Academy. For further information about the Speech and Language Resource Base, including admission, please read our prospectus or contact the Special Educational Needs Coordinator via email [email protected].
